How our in-home estate sales work
Serendipity offers a full-service solution for in-home estate sales. Here's what you can expect when working with us:
1. Home visit
The first step is to evaluate the estate. An important advantage of holding an estate sale through a professional company is that most people don’t know the full value of their items. Our insured estate liquidators visit your property to look at your inventory and determine the best course of action. In some cases, we may recommend transporting certain high-value items directly to our showroom in Norcross for consignment.
2. Planning
The estate sale is typically scheduled for about 3 weeks from the date of contract acceptance. During that period, our team is hard at work prepping your items — cataloging, pricing, cleaning, dusting, and even making minor repairs. We also arrange all the logistical details, including parking, security, item staging, and establishing a flow for ingress and egress.
3. Promotion
We support your upcoming sale with quality photography and digital promotion through social media, email marketing, and online advertising. We increase your items' visibility (and your chances to sell) by allowing prospective buyers to view your items online before the sale.
4. Hosting the sale
During the sale, our professional staff handles everything. We make sure you're getting the best prices possible for your items. You can view your sales transactions on our continuously updated, Google-friendly website.
5. Clean-up
Once the sale ends, we break down the event and tidy up the home. Most sale leftovers are donated, but any high-value leftovers may be taken back to our showroom for a 90-day consignment period to maximize your chances of selling.
Frequently asked questions
How many days do estate sales run?
Estate sales typically take place over 1-3 days, usually on a weekend. The length of the sale depends on the number of items for sale.
What happens to items that don't sell?
Items that do not sell during an estate sale are usually donated. If the item is of considerable value, it may be transported to our showroom in Norcross for a 90-day consignment period. If the item is not sold within the 90-day period, it is donated.
How long does the estate liquidation process take, from start to finish?
In most cases, we're in and out of a home in less than 4 weeks. However, the post-sale consignment period for any valuable leftover items is 90 days, so in total, the entire process may last as long as 15 weeks.
Do you offer buy-outs?
We offer buy-outs on a case-by-case basis to clients looking for a quicker and simpler experience.
In a buy-out arrangement, we assess all the items in a home and make a single lump sum offers for all the items in the house and oftentimes, we make an offer on the house itself or list it for you at a deep discount. As licensed Georgia real estate brokers, we can make the liquidation process simple.
